This past tuesday marked the 3rd redesign to Dog and Pony Show.
Our focus was to make the site more “bloggy” easier to read, and more interactive. While the interactivity is still in the works, we took a huge step forward.
The theme was created with one thing in mind, easier development between sites. DAPS is now an 8 blog stable, and we wanted to create a uniform layout that was easily customizable for each site to have it’s own flavor.
I’ve added a ton of theme functions that allow for site takeovers, specific stylesheets/images per blog and other cool little function. I’ve also developed a number of widgets catered exactly to DAPS’ needs.
Essentially, when a new blog is needed, the theme and plugins are uploaded and roughly 5 lines of code are added, and a checkbox is clicked. The nessecary artwork obviously needs to be uploaded and a style sheet for each flavor is created to set colors to what they need to be. This cuts my development time per blog by hours. A two day operation is now a 3 hour operation. SWEET!
Concerning the design itself, I based the layout off of the Cleanr theme and made a number of modifications, and rewrote the style sheet. It uses the 960 Grid System so it’s really easy to modify.
I’m really proud of the design as it greatly improves the readability of the posts and all around just looks cleaner.

Last night I put up the latest “one-sheet” for VF_DOS_, the enigmatic electro-pop-experimental act making a stink on Staten Island.
http://augiemania.com/VF_DOS_/

When we discuss visual style for his stuff, it’s often playful. This last album, he made the cover art and it was pretty fresh. My take for the one-sheet was to K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid) and let VF_DOS_ do all the talking. (also I’ve become obsessively more concerned with figuring out the absolute minimum needed to have a readable website. I think this comes close…)
Dog and Pony Show’s FLAM is looking for hot chicks to appear in his well received photo shoots. I put together some promo images with Dave Giordano of freshgrafix.net.

It’s my first time trying to add text “into” the image. not bad if i do say so myself.
Click the image for the rest of the amazing photos.
I made these with the very cute, but very limited Karma Art iPhone app.
Enjoy!

Here are some screen caps:

Comic Sans is regarded as the worst font ever. I plan on trying to make it work well.
Here is attempt 01. I was watching Family Ties on my Roku Netflix box, and it was the one where Uncle Arthur was touching all on Mallory.

Kristin’s Brother was kind enough to lend us his Bottle Brush X-mas Tree (from the MoMA store a few years back) until we get our own.

Pretty!

I am looking for one of these. The Moma Store used to carry them but no longer. It is a simple, super modern Christmas Tree designed by Kuno Prey, a professor at the famous Bauhaus design school in Germany
It is made from industrial bottle brushes dyed green and then inserted into a bright-red wood pole, the tree looks great decorated or undecorated.
